According to information from the Russian unified national register of legal persons, the Japanese science and technology company Sony had officially terminated its operations in Russia and its local Soni mobile communications Russian company was dissolved on 11 August. In February 2022, Sony announced his decision to withdraw from the Russian market in support of international sanctions against Russia.

Sony has been in operation in Russia for 18 years since 2006. In March 2022, Sony stopped the distribution of game hosts in Russia and suspended PlayStation. The liquidation document was submitted to the Russian Federation Tax Service in October 2024, following unsuccessful attempts to close operations in 2003. In the last few years, Sony ‘ s sub-company primarily sold surplus stocks and provided equipment maintenance services.

In addition, Sony Film and Television Entertainment also stopped the distribution of films in Russia, while Sony music ceased to operate in September 2022, removing foreign copyright content catalogues from local streaming media services and dissecting its Russian business into an independent company. In 2024, as a result of the lack of supply of products, Sony began to close its Russian brand store and completed the process by summer.

The financial report also reflects the contraction of Sony’s operations in Russia. In 2022, there was a net loss of 1.43 billion rubles (approximately 128 million yuan), in 2023 there was a loss of 530.2 million rubles (approximately 48 million yuan), and then, in 2024, there was a modest profit of 111.7 million rubles (approximately 10 million yuan yuan) on warranty and administrative services alone. During this period, income fell by about 76 per cent.
Earlier, a report released on 25 March by the Russian consulting firm Kept found that, since the full escalation of the Russian-Uu conflict, about 62 per cent of Russian-owned Western companies had withdrawn, most of them transferring their assets to domestic buyers or local management.
