According to Bloomberg, PlayStation recently downsized some 50 employees from its studio business group, including PlayStationStudios mobile department. Last week, an employee affected by the layoffs posted on the British administration that PlayStationStudios mobile department was completely closed. Sony refused to comment on the current status of the sector, but according to information from the British, most senior managers of PlayStation mobile services remained on board.

Sony did not specify which teams or games were affected by lay-offs and stated in his statement: “The Sony Interactive Recreation Studio Business Group has made a number of strategic adjustments to support long-term sustainable development. As part of this process, some teams have undergone limited staff reductions. We are very grateful for the contributions of all affected staff.” PlayStation, currently in a soft start phase, is known to continue to develop MLB The Show Mobile and Ricky and Tinker Bell: Ranger Fighting. MLB The Show Mobile is currently being tested on iOS and Android platforms, with downloads from the Philippines, Colombia, Australia and Dominica based on Appmagic data. The game was developed by the Sony Santiago studio as an independent hand-show. The French studio Oh BiBi is working with PlayStation and Insomniac to develop the multiplayer field-shooting game Ricky and Tinker Bell: Rangers Fighting, which began softly in November 2025. According to Appmagic data, the downloads were from France, Indonesia, Denmark, Finland, Norway, Sweden and the Philippines.
In 2022, PlayStation published the so-called mobile-end “radical growth plan” in an investor demonstration, revealing plans to push its first 20 per cent game to the mobile end by 2025. In the same year, PlayStation recruited a large number of experienced mobile game executives and purchased the mobile game developer Savage Game Studios in the summer with undisclosed amounts. In November 2023, the leadership of Savage Game Studios left and the studio was renamed Neon Koi. Subsequently, in October 2024, the studio was closed before it had launched its ongoing development of the AAA-class mobile online service action game. A month later, Olivier Kurtmansh, who had served as the executives of EA, Disney, Meta and Zynga, was appointed by PlayStation as the new head of mobile operations. Since June 2023, he has worked with Chris Davis, former head of Kabam Business Outreach. PlayStation also signed a strategic partnership with NCRE in November 2023 to explore new opportunities. The first result of this collaboration was the Sony Horizon series of derivatives, ” Horizon: Steel Frontiers ” , which was first published in November 2025 as an online multi-person action risk-taking game on a mobile end.
More recently, PlayStation, in collaboration with Web Easy, launched in August 2025 a multi-person online shooter tour of Destiny: Rise, successfully bringing the Destiny series to a mobile end.
