TikTok launched a new advertising tool Engineering Session: precision targeting users

According to ADWEEK, TikTok is introducing a new advertising tool to measure user behaviour after departure without pixel technology. The new tool, known as Engineering Session, will allow advertisers to locate users who have stopped at least 10 seconds on a website or on a retailer’s landline page after clicking.

According to the e-mail sent to the advertiser, TikTok indicated that the tool was intended to “attract high-intensity users to your website” and to provide participation indicators such as the total number of sessions and the cost of each session, which “are closely related to third-party analysis tools such as Google and Adobe Analytics”.

TikTok had disclosed to some advertisers that Engineering Session would be open to advertisers on 31 July, according to a senior media authority with early access, but the functionality had not been publicly launched or officially published as of Thursday. A representative of TikTok said to ADWEEK: “We regularly experiment with functions and tests to collect community feedback and learn from them, some of which may not be the end product.”

Engageed Session marks the latest effort by TikTok to provide advertisers with more in-depth post-click insinuations. Post-click behaviour is a common blind area in social media advertisements, as hits do not always translate into meaningful website participation. Regulatory and other privacy restrictions make pixel-tracking techniques, on which platforms such as TikTok, Meta and Google have previously relied, more difficult.

Meta has recently taken a similar initiative to link advertisers ‘ data to advertising platforms through the introduction of Google Analytics to enhance insight into user behaviour after hits. This initiative is at a critical juncture, as Z generation users are increasingly abandoning traditional search platforms, such as Google Seach, to use TikTok. According to the marketing platform Soci, 34 per cent of Z generation users use TikTok for search and discovery, while 40 per cent of adults aged 18-24 in the United States use social networks such as TikTok for local business information.

With this new tool, Lauren Kramer, Director General of Basic Technology Social Media Solutions, stated that the brand would be able to locate users on the website for longer periods of time, thus reaching the target audience more easily and promoting it closer to purchase.

Engageed Session applies to TikTok’s traffic target and helps advertisers reach users who visit their websites after watching the ad. The tool can be accessed at all TikTok advertising locations, including search advertising. The early results shared by TikTok with advertisers show a 46 per cent reduction in the cost of participating in each session, a 62 per cent increase in the average duration of the session and a 13 per cent reduction in the rate of jump-off compared to the traditional landing page viewing (the statistical users of the indicator clicked on TikTok and successfully loaded the off-site page).
